Effects of Visual Disorders on Motion and Color Processing in Infants
A longitudinal study conducted by:
The Infant Vision Laboratory
The Abraham Ratner Children’s Eye Center
University of California, San Diego

This research is funded by:
The National Eye Institute

Project Information

The goal of this research program is to better understand how brain and vision develops in infants who were born with visual or eye disorders.  We are currently seeking 1-month old to 8-month old infants who have or had the following conditions:

*    Cataracts in one or both eyes

*    Severe refractive error in one eye (anisometropia)

*    Strabismus (specifically, when one eye turns inward)

All of the assessments are safe, non-invasive measures that we have used in previous studies in our laboratory to test infants in the general population. The vision tests are carefully designed to assess specific visual functions such as color and motion processing.   Basically, we observe whether your infant looks at patterns on a computer monitor.

If your infant is 1 month to 8 months of age, lives in the San Diego area, and you are interested in participating in this study, please contact Dr. Bosworth at rbosworth@ucsd.edu (858) 822-0541 for more information.
